Head of People and Culture

At Oji Fibre Solutions – Forest Resources, our manufacturing operations are built on the efficient and responsible use of sustainably sourced virgin wood fibre from renewable forestry resources. Our People & Culture team plays a pivotal role in supporting this mission—working closely with the business to drive performance, nurture a positive and inclusive culture as we continue to evolve.

About the role:

As we embark on an exciting period of transformation, we’re looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking Head of People & Culture to join our senior leadership team. This is more than a leadership role – it’s an opportunity to make a lasting impact as we shape the next chapter of our business.

Backed by a renewed executive team and a clear vision for the future, we're embracing a fresh approach to how we work, lead, and grow.  This role is central to that journey – partnering with the CEO and wider executive team to deliver a people strategy that builds capability, strengthens culture, and supports our long-term commercial success.

Based across our Waikato and Bay of Plenty sites, you'll lead a passionate and capable People & Culture team. Together, you’ll drive initiatives that support leadership development, enhance employee engagement, and foster a high-performance, inclusive workplace.

We know change isn’t always easy – and that’s why we’re looking for someone who’s up for the challenge: a trusted leader who can build credibility quickly, provide clarity through uncertainty, and inspire others along the way.

How you will make an impact:

  • Advise and collaborate with the CEO, senior leaders and Board on people, leadership, and culture strategies.
  • Partner with union representatives to support productive, future-focused employment relationships.
  • Shape and deliver our People & Culture strategy, aligned to business priorities and evolving needs.
  • Introduce progressive, sustainable people practices while navigating existing legacy systems.
  • Coach and empower leaders to lift capability across the business.
  • Champion a culture that values accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

You will bring proven HR leadership experience within complex or operational environments, ideally with exposure to unionised workforces. A relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, or a related field is essential, alongside deep expertise in organisational development, employee relations, and leading change. You combine strategic thinking with a grounded, pragmatic approach and possess strong influencing skills that enable you to guide, challenge, and support at the executive level. Your collaborative style and ability to build credibility across all levels of the organisation will be key to your success in this role.

Benefits on offer:

  • Competitive salary package + vehicle
  • Enhanced superannuation
  • Free RegularCare Southern Cross medical insurance
  • Free income protection, permanent disability, and life insurance
  • Supportive, experienced and committed Team
  • A hybrid work environment, with a mix of on-site presence and remote flexibility
